Cake Toppers & Ornaments

I have a little trouble with consistency.  I would like to promise that I'll post once per week from now on, but that wouldn't last long and then I would have lied to you.  So instead I will promise to post when I feel inspired, and hopefully that will be more often than once per month!

Here are a few cake toppers and ornaments from February:

Just click on the pictures to see them in my shop.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sock Monkey SMASH CAKE Toppers

Sometimes when ambitious party planning moms create fantastic parties for their little ones they have a regular sized cake for the party guests and they also have a very small "smash cake" for the birthday boy or girl to dig into.  This makes for fantastic photo opportunities!  Until recently I had a very tiny mini monkey serving as a smash cake topper in my shop, however at the request of many photo hungry mamas I was asked to make a slightly larger, more photogenic smash cake topper.

So here you have it...

Smash cake topper with polka dots (and a red balloon add-on) for boys or girls.

and smash cake topper with flowers (and a red balloon add-on if desired) for girls.

The smash cake topper is only 3" tall.  I also made a matching 4.5" topper for the big cakes.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope at your next sock monkey birthday party everyone has a SMASHING good time!

XOXO

Kama, Fire Dragon Goddess

Guide Sculpture "KAMA"

I want to share my latest sculpture.  Her name is "Kama" and she is a Fire Dragon Goddess who comes around to stir things up and get things moving.
I first saw her while doing intuitive work with a friend and client, and Kama came through as such a strong guide for my friend that I could not stop thinking about her.  She is so dynamic, sometimes I see her riding a dragon or even morphing into a fire-breathing dragon.Kama is a dancer, a fire-spirit, and mover of energy.

Kama is a OOAK (one of a kind) art doll mixed media sculpture.  Her head, bust, arms and hands are made of polymer clay.

Her gown is made of various fabrics including vintage silk, a printed Thai cotton, velvet, and tulle.  I used wire and fabric starch to create the spiraling, undulating textures of her firey gown.

Her black hair is made of lambs wool, and I used colored feathers in her head dress.

Her wings have a 14" wing span and they are made of Fantasy Film.  They are dynamically iridescent and look different colors in different types of light.

Kama was so much fun to create, I am looking forward to creating a series of goddesses and guides this year.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Mini Sock Monkey Wedding Cake Toppers

My cupcake sized sock monkey wedding cake toppers are one of my best sellers.  They are just 2 inches tall, and they can also be used as a holiday ornament after the cake has been eaten.
Here are a few I've done lately.

Wonder Woman Sock Monkey Sculpture

I had a little fun yesterday during Baby G's nap. Yes I should be cleaning the house and working on custom orders. But sometimes a girl just has to have a little fun, ya know?

She is Wonder Woman sock monkey, a 4.5" sculpture. I have been wanting to do a series of sock monkey sculptures dressed as various characters for a while, but haven't found the time. I started dreaming about them two nights ago, and I just had to get one out. So here she is.

Wonder Monkey to the rescue!

Wonder Woman sock monkey is available in my etsy shop.

New Sock Monkey Wedding Cake Topper Cupcake Size

I've had several requests for a mini sock monkey topper that could adorn a smaller cake, a cupcake tower, the groom's cake, or perhaps just as a decoration or keepsake.

This is it! It is 2 inches tall. I had such a blast making these little cuties!

This topper can be ordered as shown, or I can make the following customizations:

1. Choose the color of base that the monkeys are sitting on
2. Choose the color of flowers the bride is holding
3. Choose two colors for the two accessory flowers which are included.
~You can order more accessory flowers if you want more than two!

4. I will make this a hangable ornament for you if you ask me to. I will add hanger loops to the top of each monkey, but only if you ask!

ps This would make a wonderful wedding gift.

They're waiting in my Etsy Shop!

Tip for Polymer Clay

I'm so excited to share this little tip. I was at a going out of business sale at a little local food store, and I found the most amazing tool. It is called a bench scraper or pastry scraper and is normally used for cutting pastry dough and cleaning work surfaces. It was marked "50 cents" so I picked it up and put it in my cart, not knowing what a treasure I had just acquired.

Later the same day I had some clay to roll out in my pasta machine. I looked at my new tool and realized it would be perfect for first chopping my clay into nice manageable slivers before rolling it out. This worked like a charm! Then I used it to cut long slices of rolled clay, to clean my pasta roller, and to scrape clay off my work surface.

I have used my bench scraper daily since I got it, and now I think I need two, one for cleaning surfaces, and one for cutting clay. If you work with polymer clay, you must get one, or two. They cost under $10.00 new, and in my book, they are priceless!

Twin Sock Monkey Cake Topper

This cake topper business is so fun. I got three orders last week for custom made toppers, and this one is a new style and certainly a personal favorite...it's "Twin Topper"!

I decided to make this a regular listing in my shop, for all of the twins having silly, whimsical sock monkey birthdays out there.

Sock Monkey Wedding Cake Topper

Here's a fun family gone bananas on this wedding cake topper!
I love the flower girl and the little two year old ring bearer. Aren't their colors fun too? I'll be sending this one off tomorrow.

Baby Girl Sock Monkey Birthday Cake Topper

The wedding cake topper monkeys turned out so well, that one mom was inspired to have me create a similar cake topper for her baby girl, who is turning one in March!

She has a diaper and a beautiful base full of flowers. I love this one.
