Gabrielle Ghost

I am so excited to share this wonderful ghostie lady with you.  She was created for me by Colleen of LoopyBoopy, and she is just beautiful. Her name is Gabrielle.

Do you love her?

Are you jealous?

You can see more LoopyBoopy creations in her etsy shop: LoopyBoopy.etsy.com.

And here is another wonderful treasure I received last month for winning second place in the PCAGOE monthly challenge.

It is a beautiful polymer clay pendant by Linda of NK Designs.  It has gorgeous sparkles and it's so smooth it feels like stone.

See more of Linda's work in her etsy shop: NKDesigns.etsy.com

Thanks so much Colleen and Linda, I am truly blessed to have such beautiful art!

PCAGOE Challenge Winners

Thanks so much to all who voted in the October Polymer Clay Artisans Guild of Etsy challenge!

I was fortunate to get 2nd place in the challenge. That is an honor, considering all of the beautiful entries. Members were asked to interpret one of their favorite works of art or to take inspiration from the colors or style of their favorite artist.

The winners of the October challenge are:

First place goes to Studioschiek for her stunning "Lady In Waiting" framed polymer clay sculpture inspired by Gustav Klimt. This entry was the overwhelming favorite of the voters, garnering more than 50% of the total votes.

Second place goes to Spiritmama for her beautiful pendant, a faithful rendition of Edvard Munch's "The Scream".

Third place goes to NKDesigns for her beautiful Yellow Calla Lilies image transfer pendant and gemstone necklace, inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's series of Calla Lily paintings.

Baby Girl Sock Monkey Birthday Cake Topper

The wedding cake topper monkeys turned out so well, that one mom was inspired to have me create a similar cake topper for her baby girl, who is turning one in March!

She has a diaper and a beautiful base full of flowers. I love this one.

The Making of "Sarah Lost Her Lover" art doll

I mentioned in my last post that I joined a new team called "ADO" for Art Dolls Only. This group is so fantastic, I'm really growing as a doll artist because of my participation with them. I just completed my first ADO challenge doll, the theme was "broken hearts". I made a doll called "Sarah Lost Her Lover" and I documented my steps, so I will post them here and you can see how she came together.

Step 1: Armature and head

Step 2: Add some boots, bake, and put fringe on boot tops and paint (watch for tassles later)

Step 3: Add makeup (acrylic paint) and tears in eyes and cheeks (sculpey glaze), and wrap armature in cloth

Step 4: Add clothing! I love this part, it took me about 5 or 6 hours to complete the clothing, after the clothing I made the hands and placed them on the armature.

Step 5: Hair

Final Step: Accessorize

Here is the story:

Sarah has a broken heart, her lover has left her with nothing but a box of memories.

Sarah comes with her box of memories, containing a photograph of her lost love, some dried flowers from their first date, a letter from him, and a tiny white ring box.

Sarah is a one of a kind art doll sculpted by myself, Waxela Sananda. She is a mixed media sculpture and she sits only 4.5" tall. She took me about 22 hours to complete.

You can see more pictures of Sarah, including "The Making of Sarah Lost her Lover" on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spiritmama/sets/72157612451809277/

"Sarah Lost Her Lover" is for sale in my shop on Etsy.

Sock Monkey Sculpture Menagerie

I'm still on a sock monkey kick. Baby G sleeps so well I've had time to keep up with my monkey obsession, so here are a few of my latest.
Josiah, my 10 year old daughter insisted I make a ballerina sock monkey, here she is:

I got a custom order for a one year old birthday cupcake tower topper monkey set, so here they are:

Let me know if you have any ideas for sock monkey sculptures, I'd love to give them a try!

La Catrina with Chihuahua

This is Catrina, the popular skeletal lady figure often seen in La Dia de los Muertos celebrations and altars.
La Catrina represents the upper class and the understanding that no one, not even aristocrats, are immune from death when it comes calling.
I also see Catrina as representing fun and play in afterlife, as she is so often dressed in fancy, colorful clothing adorned with flowers and smiling gleefully.
This Catrina art doll is made entirely of polymer clay with a bit of Tibetan lambs wool as hair. She is 7.5" tall.

I made her for the PCAGOE (polymer clay artisans guild of etsy) October challenge. The theme is "Dia de los Muertos".

I posted the "making of Catrina" pics on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spiritmama/sets/72157607277632713/
And she is now available for sale on etsy:
